Ron Legge established the business here in Branch Road, Mellor Brook over thirty years ago. Following a career in the Royal Navy, Ron's interests led him to picture framing where over the years he gained recognition as a Guild Commended Framer. Whilst based in Mellor Brook he introduced Britannia Framing School, which saw many people continue in the industry and open other framers/art galleries nationwide. Together with his daughter Merryl, they built up a reputation for quality bespoke Picture Framing and Fine Art. Merryl continued the business in 1995 following Ron's sudden passing.
In 2007 Matt, Ron's grandson became part of the Business joining Merryl as a partner. Matt brought his own additional touch to the business with 'Matt Connell Photography' having gained experience as a Ships Photographer working onboard P&O Cruises 'Oriana'. Matt's early interest in Photography came as a result of seeing images both framed and displayed here at Britannia Gallery. His most memorable, being a picture of a lighthouse with a wave crashing into it.
The new era saw the Gallery take a different direction, with displayed original artwork from Local Artists alongside Matt's Photographic work.
Following the closure of Mellor Brook Post Office, we became a 'hub' to the community providing a service to local residents. A place to chat while collecting daily newspapers, stamps and greeting cards.
2015 will see Merryl continue the business, as Matt leaves to persue other interests.
The customers need is always at the forefront of Britannia Gallery''s business ethos with over 200 mouldings on display together with many more options.
By maintaining a relatively small number of suppliers we are able to provide and indeed maintain our high standards to the customer.
